Trips for Kids Ottawa is a charitable organization based in Ottawa, Ontario, classified by the CRA under public amenities. It appears on the charity register the way hospitals, universities, and other publicly funded bodies do — to issue tax receipts — rather than as a donation-driven charity in the usual sense. In its fiscal year ending December 31, 2024, it reported $108K in revenue and $112K in expenditures.

Its funding that year was roughly 11% from donations, 71% from government, 18% from other charities. Government funding is the majority of its budget. In 2024, 8 other registered charities reported granting it a combined $59K.

Compared with 686 public-amenity institutions of similar size, its share of spending on mission — charitable programs plus grants to other charities — ranked above 82% of peers. Its highest-paid position fell in the $40,000–79,999 range. The charity reported 1 permanent full-time position.

Revenue has grown substantially over its filings on record here, from $19K in 2020 to $108K in 2024. Its filed list of directors and trustees shows 3 names.

In its own words

Trips for kids ottawa (tfko) is a charitable organization that provides mountain bike outings and environmental education for kids who would not otherwise be exposed to such activities. At our outings we teach lessons in personal responsibility achievement and environmental awareness through the simple act of having fun. Tfko provides opportunities for children and teens to experience adventure through mountain biking and other outdoor activities. We believe every child deserves the opportunity to explore the great outdoors so we provide the equipment.
