The primary purpose of the foundation is to promote arts and humanities with particular emphasis on education to gift funds to qualified donees as defined in subsection 149.1(1) and to advance knowledge of preservation of and displaying items of historical significance. On an ongoing basis the foundation provides for the annual award of the massey medal of the royal geographical society and provides for the maintenance of the massey mausoleum a heritage property in mount pleasant cemetery toronto.
