The society supports education about jane austen's writing the writing of her contemporaries her life and the social history of her period. Grants are made to assist regional groups to finance meetings so that members and the public can learn more about austen and her works. Event assistance grants are avaliable to regional groups to pay for honoraria for qualified speakers / presenters on these topics as well as reasonable travel expenses for in-person speakers / presenters. These events must be advertised to the general public.
