The Historical Society of Medicine Hat and District is a charitable organization based in Medicine Hat, Alberta, classified by the CRA under public amenities. It appears on the charity register the way hospitals, universities, and other publicly funded bodies do — to issue tax receipts — rather than as a donation-driven charity in the usual sense. In its fiscal year ending April 30, 2024, it reported $24K in revenue and $34K in expenditures. Spending exceeded revenue that year — the gap came out of reserves.

Its funding that year was roughly 85% from government. Government funding is the majority of its budget. In 2024, 1 other registered charity reported granting it a combined $500.

Compared with 521 public-amenity institutions of similar size, its share of spending on mission — charitable programs plus grants to other charities — ranked above 45% of peers.

It reported gifts to 3 qualified donees totalling $26K in 2024, the largest being $15K to Etzikom Museum Historic Windmill Center. Its filed list of directors and trustees shows 9 names.
