Media Matters Ministries Inc. is a charitable organization based in Fredericton, New Brunswick, classified by the CRA under support of religion. It appears on the charity register the way hospitals, universities, and other publicly funded bodies do — to issue tax receipts — rather than as a donation-driven charity in the usual sense. In its fiscal year ending December 31, 2024, it reported $20K in revenue and $31K in expenditures. Spending exceeded revenue that year — the gap came out of reserves.

Its funding that year was roughly 39% from donations, 61% from government. Government funding is the majority of its budget. In 2023, 1 other registered charity reported granting it a combined $5,100.

Compared with 68 religious institutions of similar size, its share of spending on mission — charitable programs plus grants to other charities — ranked above 0% of peers.

Revenue has grown substantially over its filings on record here, from $5,530 in 2020 to $20K in 2024. Its filed list of directors and trustees shows 6 names.

In its own words

Media Matters Ministries is basically a one man show with Bob McLeod the acting director and production. Activity continues to be somewhat curtailed as Bob fights cancer. But online training and consultation continued. OUR MAIN FOCUS WAS WITH ONLINE VISUAL MEDIA PRODUCTION TRAINING.
