German Language School Loreley Inc. is a charitable organization based in Oshawa, Ontario, classified by the CRA under teaching institutions. It appears on the charity register the way hospitals, universities, and other publicly funded bodies do — to issue tax receipts — rather than as a donation-driven charity in the usual sense. In its fiscal year ending August 31, 2023, it reported $1,341 in revenue and $1,666 in expenditures. Spending exceeded revenue that year — the gap came out of reserves.

In 2020, 1 other registered charity reported granting it a combined $480.

Compared with 740 education institutions of similar size, its share of spending on mission — charitable programs plus grants to other charities — ranked above 65% of peers.

Revenue has declined over its filings on record here, from $3,766 in 2020 to $1,341 in 2023. Its filed list of directors and trustees shows 3 names.

In its own words

During the fiscal year 2022/2023 german language classes were provided virtually instead of in-person. The preference of students towards online learning instead of in-class learning had shifted during the covid restriction times in 2021. A beginner class level a 1.1 took place in autumn 2022 and following in spring 2023 an advanced class level 1 1.2 with each 15 days and 2 hrs instruction time.
