Cowichan Search and Rescue Society is a charitable organization based in Duncan, British Columbia, classified by the CRA under protective health care. It appears on the charity register the way hospitals, universities, and other publicly funded bodies do — to issue tax receipts — rather than as a donation-driven charity in the usual sense. In its fiscal year ending June 30, 2024, it reported $66K in revenue and $153K in expenditures. Spending exceeded revenue that year — the gap came out of reserves.

Its funding that year was roughly 12% from donations, 71% from government. Government funding is the majority of its budget. In 2024, 4 other registered charities reported granting it a combined $2,061.

Compared with 213 health institutions of similar size, its share of spending on mission — charitable programs plus grants to other charities — ranked above 98% of peers.

Revenue has declined over its filings on record here, from $212K in 2020 to $66K in 2024.
