Character Community Foundation of York Region is a charitable organization based in Newmarket, Ontario, classified by the CRA under support of schools and education. It appears on the charity register the way hospitals, universities, and other publicly funded bodies do — to issue tax receipts — rather than as a donation-driven charity in the usual sense. In its fiscal year ending December 31, 2021, it reported $272K in revenue and $241K in expenditures.

Its funding that year was roughly 65% from government. Government funding is the majority of its budget. In 2023, 1 other registered charity reported granting it a combined $4.

Compared with 1,552 education institutions of similar size, its share of spending on mission — charitable programs plus grants to other charities — ranked above 22% of peers. Its highest-paid positions fell in the $40,000–79,999 range (2 positions in that band). The charity reported 2 permanent full-time positions.

Its filed list of directors and trustees shows 7 names.

In its own words

We deliver character development programs to children youth and adults. Due to the ongoing pandemic we were not able to deliver in school programs until november 2021. We delivered our pivoted outdoor slap shot program to 49 students in nov/dec. We pivoted our music alive program into a virtual music/character development program and delivered it to 2 100 students in the spring and fall of 2021. We continued with our character awards but did not hold a virtual or in-person event. We presented the awards in person to the winners at their homes/workplace in july 2021.
