Brant Community Healthcare System is a charitable organization based in Brantford, Ontario, classified by the CRA under core health care. It appears on the charity register the way hospitals, universities, and other publicly funded bodies do — to issue tax receipts — rather than as a donation-driven charity in the usual sense. In its fiscal year ending March 31, 2024, it reported $261.8M in revenue and $263.8M in expenditures.
Its funding that year was roughly 92% from government. Government funding is the majority of its budget. In 2024, 2 other registered charities reported granting it a combined $2.6M.
Compared with 538 health institutions of similar size, its share of spending on mission — charitable programs plus grants to other charities — ranked above 2% of peers. Its highest-paid positions fell in the $350,000 and over range (2 positions in that band). The charity reported 1,031 permanent full-time positions.
Its filed list of directors and trustees shows 13 names.
In its own words
The brant community healthcare system provides inpatient acute care rehabilitation mental health and complex continuing care health services as well as other outpatient health care programs for brantford and brant county. The healthcare system does not actively raise funds from charitable donations. All substantial charitable donations and fundraising activities are accomplished through the brant community healthcare system foundation and brant community volunteer association. These funds are primarily for capital equipment and capital projects.
